Automated Gate Installation & Repair across Kent

William's Electrical provides full automated gate installations, maintenance, repairs and safety inspections across Kent. As a Gate Safe Aware installer (registration 2476), we can assess existing gate systems, identify safety or compliance concerns and carry out the necessary upgrades or remedial works. It sits naturally alongside the rest of what we do — an automated gate is a powered machine with a control panel, a supply and safety circuits, so it wants an electrician who understands all three.

What's included

  • New swing and sliding gate automation, including the supply and control gear
  • Safety inspections against the Gate Safe protocol, with a written report
  • Force testing and adjustment so closing and impact forces are within limits
  • Photocells, safety edges and induction loops fitted or brought up to standard
  • Fault finding and repair on existing systems — motors, control boards, sensors
  • Servicing and planned maintenance, plus access control, intercoms and keypads

Called Gary at 4am he was at my house for 5am and stopped the leak from doing any further damage and arranged for the repair to be carried out by a plumber. Had him back a few weeks later to find the problem with a socket in my garage that kept tripping. He rewired it all for me and now it works perfect.

I phoned him on a Saturday morning. He said could he pop round later and give us a quote. He checked everything and said the job was quite straightforward. The price was very reasonable and Gary said he could fit them there and then. Gary is very knowledgeable, he explained everything and carried out the work cleanly and efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gary.

I had a problem with my lights, I had no lights in the house at all. Gary came over to the house and got all the electricity sorted for us in under an hour, so I have no problem recommending him and his company for any electrical issues. He was clean and tidy, good value, friendly and fast.

Gary has completed work for me a number of times, including fitting a new kitchen light, repairing a broken plug socket, fitting Hive, fitting alarm/security system and changing light switches to dimmer switches. He always completes work to a high standard.

Automated Gate Installation & Repair — common questions

What does Gate Safe Aware mean?

Gate Safe is a safety charity set up in 2010 after two children were killed by automated gates, and its work is supported by the Health and Safety Executive. Gate Safe Aware installers have completed its training in the safe installation and maintenance of powered gates and are listed on the Gate Safe register — ours is registration 2476. It matters because gate automation isn't a regulated trade in the UK: anyone can fit one, so the register is one of the few ways to check an installer has actually been trained in the safety protocol.

Does my automated gate need a safety inspection?

If it's powered, yes, and it should be inspected at least annually. A powered gate is legally a machine, and whoever owns or controls the premises carries the duty for its safety. Inspection covers the mechanical condition, the safety devices, and force testing — measuring the closing and impact forces to confirm they're within safe limits, which is the part that's almost never checked on older installations.

What safety devices should an automated gate have?

Gate Safe's guidance is a minimum of two different types of safety device — typically photocells and pressure-sensitive safety edges — so that a failure of one doesn't leave the gate unprotected. The hazards being guarded against are crushing, shearing, drawing-in and impact, and the right combination depends on the gate type and its surroundings. We assess it in situ rather than fitting a standard package.

Can you repair a gate someone else installed?

Yes — a good share of our gate work is exactly that. We fault-find on motors, control boards, sensors and supplies regardless of who fitted it. Where the original installation falls short of the current safety protocol we'll tell you what's missing and quote to put it right, rather than repairing the fault and leaving the underlying problem in place.

Do you install gate automation on existing gates?

Usually, yes, but the gate itself has to be suitable — sound construction, hinges and posts that can take the loading, and enough room for it to operate safely. We check that at survey. If a gate isn't a safe candidate for automation we'll say so, because automating a gate that can't take it creates a hazard rather than a convenience.
